Course Description

The 3 months intensive course gives students a blend of technical and creative learning with various explicit skills. Students undergo an introductory learning on technical aspects of photography ranging from using various formats of digital technology in photography, lighting techniques, fundamentals of photography & editing for photography using professional equipment and resources.

The course allows students to explore their visual communication skills and creative thinking and communicate them through images. Higher emphasis is given on developing the creative ability and fuses individuality and helps each student develop a signature style towards their work. Students explore various projects across fashion, commercial and editorial photography taught by practicing photographers. Students often receive opportunities to work in a professional environment with continuous support during and on completion of the course.

The training informs students on industry protocols and students learn how to engage with industry experts – fashion editors, model bookers, agents, production companies and commercial clients. Through a series of studio based masterclasses, students gain and expand technical skill in studio and location work focusing on the art of light and composition. The photo shoot element of the course is executed at industry level working with model agencies, and industry based hair and makeup teams who are familiar with working on fashion editorials in London and internationally.

Students will work across multi location, street-based and studio environments to master commercial and creative technique working with both natural and artificial light. Resulting fashion stories will be submitted for publication on-line and in print to reputable magazines and industry partners.

Students will learn how to curate their own portfolio for prospective industry clients and how to edit y imagery shot on the course. Master guest speakers include motivational and named fashion photographers for inspiration, guidance, networking, personal development and working opportunity.


Further, students experience various outdoor shoots, explore live assignments and eventually get opportunities to work under leading photographers as part of the course. At the end of the course, students present their works to the industry at the FAD Emerging Talents Show and further understand the commercial aspects of the industry prior to stepping onto the highly exciting and inspiring industry.

Entry Requirements

Passionate individuals with a keen desire to work in the industry. Applicants must be over 16 Years by the course start date. No prior work experience is mandatory, though working professionals with industry experience are welcome to apply.

Minimum Academic Requirement : O Levels or Equivalent and graduates in any field.

Fashion Photography Q) Does FAD have a studio? Yes, there will be a studio space for photography on campus. The studio can also be used outside of course hours, meaning you can cooperate with the styling and makeup students on campus to create artistic shoots and broaden your network. Q) Where are the tutors from? What is their background in relevance to the course? FAD works with an extensive list of industry experts with diverse national backgrounds and in-depth knowledge of their fields. We focus on the ability and experience of the tutor to deliver industry-level education and engagement with students throughout the course. Q) Do I require any materials to attend the course and do I need to make any preparations prior to joining the course? Yes, you will need to own a professional camera to execute the skills tutored in the course. Other course specific material list will be emailed to enrolled students prior to the start date of the course. You are required to come to class with your personal laptop or tablet, a notebook and a pen depending on your preference. No prior preparation is required before joining the course. Q) Does FAD offer internships? Through our fast growing list of international, regional and local partnerships with major players within the fashion industry, FAD provides ample opportunities for students to take up part-time job placements and internship opportunities. While we do not guarantee internships, we will provide as many opportunities tailored to your specific needs and expose students to industry networks. We have many successful internship stories both during the course and as an alumni. Q) How many hours is the course? Credit hours: 140-150 hrs Q) Where is FAD Dubai located? And can I use public transportation to reach Campus? FAD Dubai is conveniently located in Dubai Knowledge Park (DKP) and is 5 minutes away from popular locations such as Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, JBR and TECOM. Fad Dubai is located in walking distance from Knowledge Village Tram Station and Internet City Metro Station. Q) What are the campus operating hours? The campus is open for students from 10 am - 9pm on weekdays. The student relations team is always on hand to support and provide assistance whenever required. Q) Who can get a student Visa? What is the duration? FAD sponsors students with a 1 year student visa for everyone who takes a course with the minimum length of 2 months. A fee of AED 4500 will be added if you apply for an out of country visa and a fee of AED 6000 will be added if you apply for an in country visa. Q) Accomodation in Dubai The FAD student relations team supports both local and international students with finding the right accommodation for their budget and preferences. FAD does not provide any on-campus or off-campus accommodation, however you can check out for areas close to campus (e.g. Dubai Marina, Barsha Heights, JLT, the Palm) to get a better understanding of the most current rental rates in Dubai.
