About the Event

POWER OF IMAGERY IN THE CONTEXT OF DESIGN: In conversation with Harikrishnan, Artist & Designer based in London / New Delhi.

Harikrishnan is an Indian artist and designer based in London and New Delhi who strives to create a trinity between Craft, Materiality and Form.

His pieces reflect a contrast and larger than life proportions, shifting between textiles made of wood to performance sculptures. By studying different forms and materials, he composes and reconfigures these to create simple sculptures to intricate couture. Building on personal yet universal themes taken from both the classical and surrealistic contexts, he is focusing on the duality between the notion of clothing as an art and a mimetic practice.

He explores the desire to overcome stereotypical notions of art and fashion by constantly blurring boundaries and reinventing. His collaborators include International glass artist Reshmi Dey, UK's leading latex manufacturers 4 D Rubber and many other traditional Indian craft clusters.

For his recent collection, he has collaborated with the bicentennial craft of Woodturning from Channapatna in South of India, recognised by UNESCO and WTO. This collaboration led to a collection of objects from small sculptures to intricate wearables showcased during the London Fashion Week A/W 20. He trained at the University of the Arts London and his graduate collection was featured in international publications such as British Vogue, ID, Dezeen etc.
